The Gypsy series
L.A. April 1956
After ransacking the wardrobe department, Marilyn dressed as a gypsy fortune teller and posed for Milton on one of their days off from filming Bus Stop, the movie many consider to contain Monroe's finest acting. This was the second of four sessions they conducted on the 20th Century Fox Studios back lot.

The Peasant series
L.A. May 1954
One of our favorites, this image was taken on the French village set used to film What Price Glory. The combination of set and costume lent Monroe the air of a wistful peasant. Inspired by the novel, The Brothers Karamazov (for which he'd optioned the film rights), Milton wanted to convince Marilyn of her potential as a dramatic actress a talent in which he passionately believed. To prove his point, Milton photographed Marilyn in this costume, worn by Jennifer Jones for her Oscar-winning performance in The Song of Bernadette.
