Over the last 3 years The Archives have been beta testing Hewlett Packard's UV Inks and high-end Designjet 5000PS UV printers on Hahnemuhle Digital Fine Art papers.
This media combination has come to be known as 'The HP Solution.'
The Archives in conjunction with HP created a small exhibition, which was shown primarily to experts in the field of fine art imaging and printing.
The results were outstanding based on three points of consensus:
- Image clarity and superiority
- Diversity of printable media
- Archival longevity of prints
These prints are sharper than standard photography due to higher resolution imaging and ink/media penetration and distribution. Also because the imagery is mastered digitally, we have developed more consistent control over subtle tones and values in the image.
The Archives have been successful in producing inkjet prints on HP tyvec, backlit vinyl, and photobase media. Fine art prints are created on Hahnemuhle Albrecht Durer paper with HP UV inks and Arkwright Canvas.
The longevity of the HP Solution is far superior to that of tradition photography printing: with a life span of 8 to 75 years. The HP Solution has been scientifically rated to last over 200 years.
The relationship between HP and The Archives has grown very close and Joshua Greene, President of The Archives, is committed to successfully reproducing photographic images as fine art - using the Designjet 5000PS UV printer made by Hewlett Packard on Hahnemuhle media.
Hewlett Packard has now ventured into collaboration with The Archives on a world tour exhibition of Milton Greene's 'Portraits of an Era.' This collaboration will make available Limited Edition prints for the high end of the fine & decorative arts market.
The prints can be purchased from the exhibiting galleries and through this website.
The Archives uses HP advanced printing technology for in-house limited edition publishing, as well as gallery and museum exhibitions.
