P-57 / Marilyn Monroe / LA / May 1954

This never-before-seen image catches Marilyn enjoying the lighter side of her theatrical range. It is part of the “Peasant” sitting, one of our favorites, and was photographed by Milton using the French village set where What Price Glory was filmed. Milton chose this costume, the same one worn by Jennifer Jones for her Oscar-winning performance in The Song of Bernadette, as an aid to help Marilyn discover her talent as a dramatic actress.
