WF-2 / Marilyn Monroe / NYC / March 1955

This portrait was created while Marilyn was living with the Greene family in New York. It was taken at the end of a year spent in self-imposed exile from her public and exemplifies Marilyn’s expression of new-found freedom and self validation. Photographed in Milton’s studio with Marilyn wrapped in white fur, Milton and Marilyn made time for the historic sitting on an evening in March 1955. Afterward, the two shareholders left for a private cocktail party in New York City where they announced and celebrated the formation of Marilyn Monroe Productions (MMP). [At the party, Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn posed together for a brief, rare moment, and Milton captured the two divas together on film.] A sister image from the “White Fur” sitting illustrates the back cover of the Milton's Marilyn re-released edition.
